There are many brick kilns in the rural areas of Kathmandu valley where most of the workers are people with children who are pulled into labour works at a young age. This is one of the cases. This is Karan Lama who lives in a make-shift brick structure near a brick kiln in Siddhipur, Lalitpur. His parents are brick makers who Karan helps with work during his free time. With his younger brother, he attends Bhanodaya Government school not far from his "home".

In Nepal, the Portage Early Intervention Program formally started in 2001 as a trial project in two wards of Banepa Municipality and three wards of Tukucha Nala VDC (about 26 km east of Kathmandu) providing Home Teaching service to 45 children with Developmental Delay and Disabilities. From 2001 till 2019, PRAN was able to provide services to 972 children. Among these 401 children rehabilitated after completing the Portage Package, whereas, 249 children are included in mainstream education from Pre-primary to High school level and special schools.

Child Welfare Scheme Nepal (CWSN), a non-governmental organization, was established in 1997 with the goal of supporting marginalized children and young people to help them realize their rights and their full potential. Every child has the right to a family, protection and development opportunities, however even in urban areas many children are deprived of these rights and end up out-of-school and on the streets. The key activities delivered in this project are: outreach visits; rehabilitation shelter; midway home; alternative learning centre; formal education support; child and family counseling; family reintegration; independent living support; skills training & employment facilitation; and support to obtain legal identity.

Voice of Children (VOC), established in 2000 A.D., has been working for the protection of sexually abused, street children.
